Coaching Your Team - How to take a coaching approach in leadership

Mid-Level Manager Boot Camp: Developing Key Supervisory Skills

To help address this need, Effectiveness Consultants has developed this skill-building workshop presented in one of two formats (6 weekly3 hours sessions or over the course of two full days) targeting both new and experienced supervisors and managers. In each of these highly engaging weekly workshops participants will be introduced to specific skills and through a blend of interactive discussion and presentations will leave prepared to return to their workplaces with actionable skills to make them more effective in their roles.  These skills focus on self-efficacy, employee engagement, accountability, and motivation.

About the course:

We cover 5 primary skills and then leave some time to work with the specific needs of course participants in the last session.

Workshop Sessions:

Day One - Know Yourself - Know Your Team.  With a better idea of who you are and who your team is you will have some skills to adapt your behavioral style to the situation and to the people with which you interact in ways that make you more effective and more satisfied.

Day Two - Giving Effective Feedback.  We examine why we sometimes have a hard time giving effective feedback and some ways that we can increase the effectiveness of our feedback in a way that increases commitment from others. You will leave this session having worked through a specific feedback scenario and be ready to put it into practice.

Day Three - Delegation for Success. We recognize that there are a variety of reasons that we need to delegate, not least of which is our own sanity. You will leave this session with an understanding of when and how to delegate and a plan for delegating at least one task that will free you up to concentrate on something vital to you.

Day Four - Building a Supportive Climate. For our teams to reach their full potential we need them to feel supported.  A supportive climate leads to reduced turnover, more open communication, and increased motivation. This week we will focus on being an effective listener as well as a supportive communicator and you will leave having practiced these skills and some clear guidelines for continued improvement.

Day Five - Coaching. A coaching approach to development takes a particular perspective and involves learning how to ask the right questions, facilitating a growth mindset, managing the setting of realistic, but challenging goals, and helping our employees find a path that makes sense for them. This session will guide you through that process.

Each workshop includes a pre-meeting with leadership to tailor the content to the organization's needs, initial and post-training assessments to measure growth, post-training one-on-ones with each participant to integrate learning into personal growth plans, and a debrief with leadership to discuss the impact of the training.
